On October 8-9, 2022 at Wintree City Resort, Chiang Mai, the research project "China Cross-Border Railway: A Comparative Study of the Impacts of Railway Construction Projects on Communities Around Major Stations in Thailand and Laos" by Asst. Prof. Phanitda Saiyos presented the project progress and (draft) research article "China's Transnational Railway and Local Communities: Infrastructures, Imaginaries, and Life Stories from the Ground" at the 12-month research project progress follow-up meeting under the theme "Concepts and Methodologies in BRI Research" Second Progressive Workshop organized by the Center for China-Southeast Asia Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University.
The China-Cross Border Railway Research Project is carried out under the large project package “Social, Political and Economic Opportunities and Challenges of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for Thai and Southeast Asian Societies” led by Professor Dr. Yos Santisombat, which is funded by the Human Resource Development and Higher Education Institution Development Fund, Research and Innovation Management Unit (NRCT) in fiscal year 2021.
The event also featured presentations of academic papers and project progress by many researchers, including Professor Dr. Yot Santisombat, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Chinh, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ta-Wei (David) Chu, Prof. Dr. Danny WONG Tze Ken, Prof. Dr. LIU Hong, Asst. Prof. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanon, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pinkaew Prof. Dr. Sathien Chanta and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kengkit Kittireanglap, along with experts who gave advice on the research, such as Prof. Surichai Wun'Gaeo, Asst. Prof. Dr. Atchariya Chuawonglert, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narumon Thapchumpol, Asst. Prof. Dr. Chaiwat Meesanthan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Simon Rowedder, Prof. Dr. Lee Lai To, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pitiya Suwakan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Chusak Wittayaphak, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jamaree Chiangthong and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kanokwan Manorom.
